Buggies

Buggy reviews

Buggy reviewsLara Green from Babyworld.co.uk has been testing out buggies with a panel of parents. We asked her what points parents should consider when looking to purchase this product.

What is a lightweight buggy?

They're basically a lighter alternative to a pram or travel system. They're great for anyone who lives in the city, has a small flat or small car boot. They collapse down very easily and quickly. Some have a shopping basket. Comfort levels are important for the baby as is a good recline so they can sleep whilst they're out and about.

Are they noticeably lighter?

You do have to have a good look around. Some can be quite heavy. It is worth checking on the weight of the buggy before you buy it.

What's the price of a lightweight buggy?

They start from around £50 but the more modern models tend to cost around £150. Quite reasonable and a good investment. Sometimes the cheaper models are worth getting if it's purely for a trip but if you want to use it a lot then it's worth looking at the slightly more substantial models.

Do they come with accessories?

It's worth checking that with the manufacturers, usually you will get a raincover. For extra hoods, sunshades and anything like that it's worth checking.

Is there a lot of choice?

There's a great deal which is why it's important to do your research. There are different styles and designs. Most fold in an umbrella style but some fold very flat so they're like a travel system. The frames are smaller, the seating isn't quite as padded. The main aim is to make life a bit easier with getting out and about.

Are they durable?

You should look to see what the suspensions like, how durable are the wheels. You can get buggies that allow you to do more serious walking but the wheels do tend to be smaller.
